turn off shuffle
My mix was set up to run in a specific order but it comes out shuffled each time - is it possible to turn off the option to shuffle mixes, or is that even supposed to happen?
Sorry for this, I know the randomization is annoying.
Currently, every listener gets the correct/intended order when he or she first tunes into a mix. On the 2nd listen, the ordering gets randomized.
I've been working with our legal counsel to try to find a better way to meet the requirements of the compulsory license (as exposur3 notes above).
Stay tuned.

I think that's a great idea. We've talked about creating a dedicated page for each artist, with content pulled in from Wikipedia and a prominent link to an artist's URL of choice.
While this wouldn't give us any greater flexibility on the legal front, we are also looking to offer a way for artists to opt-in to loosen some of the legal restrictions.

"Official pages" (in reference to linking from 8tracks to artists pages) meaning pages maintained by the copyright-holders.
I know i'd feel better about my music being circulated here if that were the case.

No, but we'll cover this in FAQs soon. What do you mean by "official pages?

When i first encountered this i thought the page was hacked... is this in the faqs somewhere or anything?
I wonder if linking to official pages would satisfy the legal quotient at all?

FWIW, I appreciate that the original order is available at all.

I worked hard on my mix that had a special and specific order. But I guess I think of that to the next time.

Yeah... but shuffling sort of defeats the object of putting mixes together a certain way. Seems to be that tippy-toeing around the legal requirements is compromising the functionality.

based on http://8tracks.com/legal it looks like that's by design.
"An objective of the compulsory license is to ensure that a listener's experience is similar to traditional radio and essentially non-interactive (i.e., you can't hear a specific song when you want it), so as not to substitute for music purchase."
