allow gapless playback
Gapless playback would be nice if you've put together a mix using Mixmeister or similar software (as I have) - I realise this isn't really feasible with a streaming service like this so what about being able to upload less than eight tracks - i.e. one track-at-once? Or is this beyond what 8tracks was set up to do?

Sort it so that tracks play in the order they are chosen in.
I uploaded and selected songs for my mix in a particular order, but when you play the mix, they pop up in a random order. Would it be possible to ensure they play in the desired order?
I realize this sucks -- the sequence of a playlist is an essential part of the value of the playlist as a whole. What currently happens is a listener will hear the CORRECT order the first time he/she tunes in. If he/she then tunes in a 2nd time, then the order is randomized.
I'm working with our legal counsel to figure out a better way to meet the requirements of the compulsory license without having to force randomization.

allow user to delete their uploaded songs planned
I understand that perhaps you haven't included this option because other users are allowed to use songs that one uploads. However, a user should still be able to delete songs they have uploaded. Perhaps they accidentally uploaded a poor version of a song, or maybe they just decided don't want the song available to anybody else anymore (especially if it's an original recording), or maybe they want to quit using your site altogether and delete all of their mixes. If you wanted to dissuade them from deleting a song, perhaps you could offer a warning if the song is in somebody else's mix. But the option to delete a song should still be available to the user who was the original uploader; it's only fair.
Agree, and we'll be adding this functionality.

Can we have an adjustable crossfader facility?
Even if we can't keep the same order as sequenced by the dj, it would be nice to have a cross fade facility to blend tracks together with a setable duration(like on Microsoft Media Player) to keep that 'radio' feel.
Agree! That's a great idea, C. We've talked about this a little bit internally. It's not easy, but we should be able to figure it out. Makes everything a bit more polished.

turn off shuffle
My mix was set up to run in a specific order but it comes out shuffled each time - is it possible to turn off the option to shuffle mixes, or is that even supposed to happen?
Sorry for this, I know the randomization is annoying.
Currently, every listener gets the correct/intended order when he or she first tunes into a mix. On the 2nd listen, the ordering gets randomized.
I've been working with our legal counsel to try to find a better way to meet the requirements of the compulsory license (as exposur3 notes above).

let me star or bookmark entire mixes so I can replay later planned
If we get enough feedback on this point, we may add it. We included this in our alpha version of our site but then decided to simplify b/c we had similar functionality for both "favoriting" tracks and following DJs.
At a minimum, we'll add a mix history ("mix scrobbling" in a sense) so that you can see what you've tuned into in the past.

Show most popular & recommended mixes started
We'll allow listeners to sort mixes by most popular in a new version of the homepage,likely coming in Sep.
We'd also like to offer mix recommendations later in the year, based on listening/favoriting/following activity on 8tracks (and possibly Last.fm info, via API).

let me preview songs in my list before saving planned
I want to be able to upload songs and then listen to them to move them around so they flow better.
Do you mean from the right column on the 8tracks.com/selection screen (what you get to when you click "Create Mix" at top of page)? You can stream full tracks from the left column.

Allow more control over the player.
You can skip to the next track but it would be nice to skip to the previous one too.
It would also be helpful if you could click on the time line of the playing track to jump to that point, effectively a fast forward or rewind.We'd love to be able to do that, but this would make our service "interactive" as defined by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (the law that established the radio-style license under which we operate).
If we were to do deals with record labels for "on-demand" streaming, we could offer this functionality. However, these royalty rates are too expensive to be supported by advertising.

volume control planned
a volume control on the player would be nice.
I know this is sorely needed (esp for listening on headphones) and we'll be adding a volume control to our "thick" player coming in a month or 2.

make an iphone friendly page
I just got an iphone and am digging pandora type sites. I rarely sit in front of my computer longer than a half hour at a time but I do use my iphone almost all day for music while i am working. I would prefer this site for my tunes.
We're developing an iPhone application.
Currently, we use a Flash player on the website, and the iPhone doesn't support Flash. If we were to abandon Flash, we could make iPhone friendly page.

Show sites linking to your mix
Youtube has an option where you can view all of the websites embedding or linking to your video and i think this would be great for 8tracks

make embedded player start automatically
this would help make the player more useful on websites, as the player is not particualrly obvious when a part of most websites.
We'll be offering auto-start for the embedded player, likely in our next push (next week).

include (artist, genre, etc) searchbox on every page
I'm really diggin' 8tracks.... but currently the process of discovering new music is a bit tedious because every time I want to perform a new search (e.g. when I've landed on a mix that's not my cup of tea), I have to go back to the homepage in order to access the searchbox. Please, let us explore the 8tracks-universe freely, without being tethered to the homepage-mothership!
This is a great point. I've added this to our feature/bug tracker and will look to move the searchbox to the header in our next big site update.

History of previous mixtapes listened/browsed
A little minimal history bar above the player of previous mixtapes visited/listened would be nice. Sometimes you want to go back to the previous more favorable mixtape but don't want to fight with the back button on the browser.
Agree this is a good idea, esp since we don't have a "favorite" button for mixes. Have added to product roadmap. Thanks for suggestion.

Recommend mixes/DJs based on listening history/stars
Help users discover other mixes and DJs with intelligent recommendations. Maybe there is someway to integrate with the intelligence of Last.fm to do this kind of thing. Maybe there is an easier way to match up users based on history and starring patterns. Would definitely drive usage of the site.

Link songs to the mixes they appear in
When I search for an artist to include in my mix, I am often curious to know who else used the track(s) uploaded, and what kind of music they thought the track(s) matched with.
I like this idea. One simple way to implement it would be to include a link ("find mixes") next to each track in the Create-a-mix tabs. This would take a would-be DJ back over to the listening section and auto-populate the searchbox based on the track name.
While I think we've some more urgent items, I'll add this as a project in our feature tracker.

put track information in the page title instead of username started
The page title only displays user information. It'd be nice to not have to click back to the tab while I'm browsing and still be able to see the artist - track name.

Show random list of mixes on home or "Random List" Page started
Similar to Popular, just pick random list ala opentape or muxtape. Allows real music discovery instead of being stuck with just "most popular".

RSS Feeds! - to follow a particular user's new mixes planned
similar to the new mix feed - but for individual users and in RSS so I can track it in my reader.
